Phanpy Get! Will Kronis

Will looked at the PokéBall in his hand, before shrugging and releasing the Pokémon trapped inside. In a flash of red light, the Phanpy appeared, looking around at the new place they were in. Chili walked over, giving a warm greeting to the newcomer. Will smiled. "Hi, I'm your trainer now. We're going to have a lot of fun together. Now, all that's left is to name you..." the Phanpy trumpeted happily, blowing air into Will's face. Will laughed. "I know what to call you. Gale. That's your new name." Gale nodded happily. "I'll keep you out of your PokéBall for now so you can get to know this guy." Will said, gesturing to Chili. "Cyn!" Will started down the path, both Pokémon in tow.

Will felt the warm sun on his face, and grinned. He looked back and crouched down to speak to Gale, face to face. "How're you liking it so far?" Gale responded gleefully. "Phan!" Will nodded, and kept going. He heard Chili and Gale speaking in Pokémon behind him, probably remarking on different sights and sounds. Will soon spotted a Pokémon on the path, a Pidgey. It looked up warily. Will whispered to his friends. "Let's leave him alone, I'm not all that interested in a Pidgey." Will hefted his egg into a more comfortable position in his arm, then continued down the path a good distance away from the Pidgey with Chili and Gale.

Will continued past the Pidgey walking for a while before going to rest against a tree when he stepped on something. Looking down, he saw a flower crumpled underneath his foot, then looking up, he saw an angry Ledyba heading for his face. Will ducked down, narrowly missing the attack, then popped back up, staring at the Ledyba. Awesome! A Ledyba! His mind snapped into action. "Gale, Growl, then Tackle!"

The Ledyba was too infuriated to be slowed by Gale's Growl, and dealt a good hit. Afterward, it easily flew out of the way of Gale's Tackle. Will bit his lip. "Erm, okay. You can fly, little Ledyba, and so you obviously have the advantage." Will thought for a moment, before calling out orders again. "Gale, let come in to attack, then Defense Curl. After, use your close proximity to Bite it's wing!" Will crossed his fingers, desperately hoping this would work. He might be able to ground the Ledyba if he was lucky.

It seemed like the only attack the Ledyba could use was Tackle. Perhaps Will could use this to his advantage. He took notice of the Ledyba's blind rage over destroying its flower. Suddenly, Will had a great idea. It would (probably) work. "Gale, back up against that tree, then as he's about to hit you, dodge to the side! Then smush him against the tree some more with two Tackles!" If the plan worked, the Ledyba would crash against the tree and be momentarily dazed enough for Gale to smash him against it some more.

Will watched the result of his orders ensue. Gale dodged, but the Ledyba was fast enough to land instead of hitting the tree. Luckily, though, Gale was still able to crash into it with Tackles twice. Will decided to go on the full-out offensive this round, maybe he could get the Ledyba down enough for a PokéBall. Will gave orders. "Wait for it to attack, then meet it's Tackle with your own. Quickly, then, two more Tackles after that!" Will's hand floated over the PokéBall on his belt. If at least two of the Tackles hit, then he'd throw a PokéBall, otherwise the Ledyba would likely break free.

Ding! Will pumped the air with his fist and gave Gale a paw-five with his hand. "Awesome job Gale! Let's see if you've got anything new..." Will pulled out his PokéDex and scanned over Gale. He yelped for joy. "Woohoo! You learned Flail!" Will looked snagged the PokéBall on the ground, releasing the Ledyba. He bent down, looking at the Ledyba in the eye. "Hi there. I'm Will, this is Chili, and that's Gale. I'm a Pokémon Trainer. I'm sorry for crushing your flower- here's a peace offering." Will reached into his backpack and pulled out an Oran Berry, offering it to the Ledyba. The Ledyba warily accepted the berry and gnawed on it. Gale gave a trumpet of joy. Will smiled. "Great!" Looking around him, Will saw the path he had taken to Mr. Pokémon's house and the other one. "Well then, the last thing to do before heading out is to give you a name," he said, looking at the Ledyba. "How about...Pilot? Yeah, that's good. Your nickname will be Pilot." The Ledyba nodded and flew onto Will's shoulder. He smiled and started down the left path toward Route 31, with 4 Pokémon; Pilot, Chili, Gale, and the unknown fellow in his egg.

Will continued down the path unabated for a while until he spotted a huge spiderweb-like wall blocking the path standing in front of it was a little boy, younger than Will at least. Will narrowed his eyebrows. "Hey, did you-" He was rudely interrupted, however, by the kid. He was obviously insane, or at least totally addicted to movies. Will cleared his throat and felt embarrased. "Er, okay." The kid tossed out a pitiful little Caterpie. This would be the sweatdrop moment, Will thought. "Uhm, right then. Pilot, watch and learn. Chili, get out there!" The Cyndaquil cheered for joy and scampered up to take his place. Will smiled. The typing was in his favor. "Chili, double Flame Wheel! If he uses String Shot, don't worry. Your flames will burn them off."

Well, that was fairly unexpected. Will thought for a moment. He could send out Pilot, who would be able to keep up with the airborne Caterpie, or he could keep out Chili, who had a type advantage. He shrugged, deciding to keep Chili out. Will stared at the skilled Caterpie. "Chili, Smokescreen! Follow with Flame Wheel!" With the Smokescreen, Caterpie won't be able to see branches to latch onto or see Chili coming. Of course, there could be the matter of it remembering where branches are, but Will would just have to hope not.

The Caterpie DID have time to latch on to a branch, but it seemed Chili hit him in time. It obviously did a lot of damage. "Yeah!" Will whooped. It managed to hide in the smoke, but that wouldn't be too much of a problem, a few more hits and it would go down. Will gave orders once again. "Chili, stay out of the smoke. Growl to intimidate him. Then search him out, and two Flame Wheels when you have a clear shot. If he starts to swing around, wait until he stops before attacking. This might be tiring, but the battle will be over soon!"

Damn. That was a poor choice of moves, Will thought. By the Caterpie's squeal of pain, he could tell that Chili had landed a hit. The Caterpie should go down soon, no doubt about that. One more supereffective hit should bring it down. "Chili, Flame Wheel! Finish it off, then you can get a nice long rest!"

Will heard the anguished squeal, and saw the Caterpie collapse. "Yeah! Awesome job, Chili-" The Caterpie was replaced by another Caterpie. Will dropped his jaw. "Well, eff. You did great, Chili. Take a breather. Pilot! Let's go!" Returning Chili to his PokéBall for some downtime, Will called out his new Ledyba. "Pilot, Double Tackles! If he swings away, chase him through the air!" Now that his fighting Pokémon was airborne, Will wouldn't have too much of a problem if the Caterpie was like the last one. Will bit his lip. IF it was like the last one...

Will cursed under his breath when the Caterpie tangled down Pilot's wings. Grounded, Pilot knocked into the Caterpie for a weaker hit. Will wracked his brain trying to think of a way to get that silk off of Pilot. "Pilot...ram into it with another Tackle, try your best. Then Growl at it." If Pilot really had trouble, Will could always feed Chili an Oran Berry and send him back out. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that and Pilot would be able to handle the situation.
