Route 30 Get! Will Kronis

Will took a deep breath of the air around him. This was going to be fun. Chili, his new Cyndaquil, wandered around, exploring everything, but always kept in sight. Will smiled. Best choice he'd ever make. Now, all he had to do is find this Mr. Pokémon guy, and then he and Chili could be on their way. Will stopped and looked around. Didn't seem to be anyone or any thing here. Oh well. Just keep moving I guess. Cyndaquil barked. "Cyn!" Will walked over, curious. "What'd you find?" Cyndaquil was rummaging around in some bushes, when he pulled out an Oran Berry. Will smiled. "Oh good, we can use that for-" Before he knew it, Cyndaquil had eaten the entire thing in one bite. Will grimaced. "C'mon, you. Let's get going."

Heading out onto Route 30 with new egg in hand and Chili the Cyndaquil in tow, Will couldn't help but notice how dense the forest was quickly getting. Not wanting to stick around for very long, he began looking for Mr. Pokémon's house with Chili sniffing out the forest.

After a short while of walking, Will eventually came to a fork in the road. The path to the left looked a bit more traveled on, but there was a recently cleared signpost that pointed to the right and labeled "Mr. Pokémon's House". With the answer right in front of him, Will took the path on the right. After another short while of walking, he came across a large house in a clearing. This had to be the place.

Trying to balance two large Pokémon eggs at the same time, Will carefully stepped back onto Route 30. He couldn't exactly see past the eggs blocking his vision. "Chili, tell me when we find a clearing to battle in." Will, Chili, and Lyra continued walking until a short "Cyn!" signified that a clearing had been found. Setting down the eggs, Will surveyed the area before nodding at Chili. "Good job! Ready for a battle, Lyra?"

Lyra quickly joined Will out on Route 30 along with Chili and the prized egg that they were about to fight over. "My name's Lyra. Nice to meet you!" she said with a smile. "Why don't we look for an open clearing to battle? Follow me!" She then headed over to a clearing not too far from Mr. Pokémon's house. Once there, Lyra took the egg and set it down off to the side where it was safe.

"Well then, are you ready to battle?" Lyra asked as she took out a PokéBall from her belt with a smile. "Let me warn you, I won't go easy!" She then flicked her wrist to toss the PokéBall, and in a bright flash of light, a Totodile appeared. It danced in place a little, chanting "Toto!"

"A Totodile?" Will looked at Chili, who barked reassuringly. Will grinned. "Yeah, we can do this." As Chili got into a battle stance, Will yelled out orders. "Chili, Smokescreen and Tackle, then retreat out of the smoke when you're done!"

Trying to stay calm at the face of his disadvantage, Will called upon Chili to face up against Lyra's Totodile. He quickly thought up a strategy and gave it to Chili, preparing for the battle to begin. Once he was ready, Chili squared off against the Totodile as the first round started.

Chili started things off by immediately blowing out a Smokescreen, much more successful than the last time he tried that attack. Totodile tried to counter with a Water Gun, which dispersed some of the smog in the line that it was fired, but it missed Chili completely. Chili then came around and Tackled Totodile for some good damage. Totodile finished things off by Dancing in place with some Dragon-like movements. Totodile was the only one who took damage this round, while both Pokémon used up similar amounts of energy. "Alright Totodile, use your Water Gun in a sweeping motion to clear that smoke and then hit Cyndaquil with a Scratch!" Lyra called out.

"Wait after the Water Gun, then Smokescreen again, dodging the Scratch to the best of your ability. Finish with Tackle!"

A little concerned about Totodile going on the offensive, Will quickly thought up a strategy to keep his defenses up and go for the counter attack. He told it to Chili who nodded in comprehension as he prepared himself to fight against the crocodile once again.

Totodile started off the round by spraying a Water Gun across the battlefield, which dissipated most of the smoke, but Chili was ready for this, blowing out yet another Smokescreen. Unfortunately, Totodile had already gotten a good look at where Chili was standing and ran in for a Scratch. Chili winced in pain but quickly retaliated with a Tackle to knock Totodile back. Chili took slightly more damage than Totodile this round, but is still ahead in terms of health. Totodile also used up slightly more energy than Chili.

"Stay in that cloud but move around, keep him on his toes. Two Growls to unsettle him. Replace the last one with a Tackle if he finds you."

"Use your Water Gun to try and find Cyndaquil again, Totodile!" Lyra called out to her Pokémon.

Deciding to stay in the cover of the Smokescreen, Chili began to move about, letting out a fierce Growl. While it did intimidate Totodile a bit, it felt pretty safe about attacking from afar, so it fired off a Water Gun at the location of the Growl. The smoke dissipated in that area, but Chili was no where to be found. Another fierce Growl was heard from Chili in a different area, having the same effect on Totodile, who promptly fired off another Water Gun. Like the time before, it dissipated the smoke a bit but hit no one. Neither Pokémon took damage this round, but both used a little energy, Totodile using more. Both Pokémon are starting to breathe a little heavier now. The smoke is a lot clearer in some areas of the battlefield now. "Use your Dragon Dance and then Scratch if it comes at you!" Lyra said to Totodile.

"Interrupt the Dragon Dance with a Tackle if you can, try to dodge the Scratch, then Bite!"

Not wanting Totodile to power up anymore, Will ordered Chili to go on the offensive as he charged in with a Tackle, ramming the Totodile with a solid blow to prevent his Dragon Dance. Totodile staggered back but was expecting Chili who couldn't dodge the Scratch enough in time, Totodile's claws just grazing his side. In retaliation, Chili promptly Bit down on Totodile's arm, making it wince a bit. Totodile took a bit more damage than Chili this round and is looking pretty beat up now. A couple more hits should be enough to take it out. Chili used more energy than Totodile but is still ahead in that category.

Wanting to quickly end this battle, Will told Chili to attack Totodile's movement. Chili ran up to Totodile, Biting him on the leg as Totodile let out a grunt and Scratched Chili in retaliation. Totodile then looked like it was about to spray a Water Gun on Chili, but the Cyndaquil quickly Bit down even harder onto the Totodile's leg, and it gasped in pain, which cause the water in his mouth to harmlessly drip out. Totodile fell backwards with swirls in his eyes, defeated. Chili let out a sigh of relief and rolled onto his back, breathing heavily. Lyra returned Totodile to his PokéBall and handed the prize egg over to Will. "That was quite a match! We need to have a rematch someday and I promise it'll be different then! Until then, I'll see you later!" She waved and headed off down the path.

Chili has leveled up! Now with Mr. Pokémon's egg in hand, it would be best to hurry on back to Professor Elm's lab before it gets dark. Please feel free to make a stop in Cherrygrove City to heal and then simply skip back over to New Bark Town. [advance]
