Will cheered for Chili as he readied himself to set off. Will issued orders for when the Cyndaquil started up the hill. "Chili, start by Growling at your opponent, then use Flame Wheel to hit your opponent and zoom up the hill."

Dave arrived at the base of the hill, with A'Tuin hot on his heels. Seeing that the event was about to start, he had little time to prepare. Kneeling down, he rubbed the carapace of the Turtwig, before thinking up some orders.

"Right then man, let's win this thing." he said, with A'Tuin nodding confidently. "Get running up that hill. If you get attacked, then use your momentum to Tackle them, before exacting some Revenge on them."

The Grass-type nodded, before preparing to run...

Marion glanced around at the intimidating competition. He had only just gotten his Nincada, and he wasn't sure if he could win this...

'No,' he though firmly. 'Don't worry. This is just for fun, after all.'

He crouched down to give some words of encouragement to his Pokémon, then went over the battle strategy with her.

"Alright, Nincada, here's what you'll do. If your opponent sends an attack at you, Harden your body and keep running. Once you get close enough, Leech some of your opponent's Life away and restore your own!"

Nincada nodded, and waited with determination for the race to start.

Richard glances carefully around the venue, and smirked. He could do this. He had no clue who he was up against, but that was the fun of it. Besides, he was new to the battling thing, and this was a very odd method of fighting. Intending to do his best, he crouched down and murmured in his companion's ear.

“Defence curl is probably a bad idea...let's go with a Tackle if you see an opponent. Twice. Knock them back down the hill.”

DM places his new mankey down gently, noticing that many other trainers were already ready, but he had a plan as he whispers to his Pokémon.

"Hey Mankey, I'm sure you'll do great, just do your best- but if anyone attacks you, get them with a Low Kick, and then just Leer them to keep them still as you keep on climbing to the top, just do your best, and I'll be proud regardless of what happens, so go get them!"

DM steps back, hoping that Mankey would do well.

The race was beginning and the orders were sure to be flying everywhere, with no-one being exactly sure who they'd end up running into first.

'With a large variety of Pokémon competing, luck, in regards to the attacks used against each opponent, was sure to factor into everything.' Yougi thought to himself as he took a second to think. He eye'd up the Pikachu as he did, having never liked them and worrying a little about how Gligars movepool would be affected by the possibility of Static.

Other than Pikachu, he didn't mind the rest of the competition. There was a rash of traditional starter Pokémon around and a few non-traditional ones. There was a small handful of people who'd chosen to go with Pokémon they'd caught or obtained though, which was probably due to their expanded movepools.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Yougi issued his orders to Gligar with care regarding the opponents he'd face.
"Okay then, let's be cautious. So open by using Sand Attack to mask your approach and then chomp on down with a Bite attack. Try to give them a good shove as you take off as well." Yougi finished with a quick wink to his Pokémon as the fight for supremacy was now on.

Tobias looked around, examining the various participants. As far as he could see, Cotton was the only true flying 'mon, with Gligar only being able to glide. He figured this meant they had some sort of chance, and while he wasn't sure about his own skills, he was very confident in Cotton.
As he was looking around, he saw a friend he had met in Johto right before he left for Hoenn, Kaito. Kaito waved, and Tobias saw he had a little Pikachu next to him. Tobias smiled, waved back, and pointed to the Swablu resting on his shoulder. He mouthed good luck, and returned his attention to the other participants. Other than Pikachu, he didn't see any electric Pokémon, which was good, but then again, he was sure there were other trainers who hadn't arrived yet. He thought for a while, trying to anticipate every situation, before realizing that was impossible.
"Cotton," he called, "Try to gain as much air as you can while racing. If any attacks actually reach you, deal with the threat with a double Peck before continuing. Try your best, and have fun. That's all that matters."
