Route 30 - Yougirasu (the road less travelled)

Having received his egg from the PokéMart and nipped back into the Pokémon Centre to collect Togepi as she was fighting fit again Yougi headed out into route 30. He was quite unsure as to hold the egg and had Togepi out to give him advice. He was currently walking with the egg tucked under his arm, it wasn't very attractive or caring but he did find it a comfortable fit and easy to manage. Togepi looked at him with a glare as they were starting through the new route, she obviously didn't approve of the way Yougirasu was holding his new egg. She growled at his slightly, to which Yougi took notice and stopped to sit down and mull things over.He tried a variety of methods of holding the egg, most of which Togepi seemed to dislike and being an egg-like Pokémon she seemed to be the expert. After much to-ing and fro-ing the egg was settled in Yougi's arms, with them acting like a sling to support the egg, with Togepi balancing upon his shoulder as a scout of sorts.

With things settled, Yougi set off again. He had high hopes of running into some fairly basic Pokémon on the route to attempt Togepi's newest move, but didn't want to see to much action as such things would tire her out and with her being his only current Pokémon he didn't really want to be left high and dry. He looked around suddenly, not realising how far he'd travelled without figuring out where in the Route Mr. Pokémon's house was. But with a name like that, it was likely that it'd either be signposted or someone would know him. And with that reassuring thought, Yougi made haste, ploughing through the grass as it became longer and less tamed.

He'd been challenged to yet another battle. Yougi had to wonder if the people out in this region were all itching for a battle, he didn't even have his own PokéDex or any PokéBalls and he'd received two challenges is a short space of time. Still, he had to get that egg to take back to the professor so he could receive the aforementioned items that he needed to truly become a trainer. So the battle was most definitely on.

As Yougi stepped outside the house, closely followed by Lyra with the egg, he noticed that there was a small clearing a small distance away from the house that would provide plenty of room for a battle without putting the nearby house at risk from attacks.
"How does over there look for the battle?" Yougi asked, carefully pointing towards the small clearing. He awaited Lyra's response as he wondered what moves would come from Togepi out of the myriad that were available with metronome.

Oh F-... Was the first thought in Yougi's head as Lyra went ahead and called out her Pokémon from the PokéBall that was set on her belt. With an effortless flick of her wrist she called out her faithful partner, which just so happened to be a Tyrogue. This fight is going to be much harder than the last, Yougi mused, At least I have a decent element of surprise against it, although it's not exactly reliable.Yougi knew that his best hope in the battle was that his Togepi's foe didn't have a fighting type move at it's disposal.

He looked across at Togepi on his shoulder. She readily got the message and set about clambering down to hop off him at a reasonable height, but found a much more amusing method. She slid from his shoulder and down his arm, narrowly missing the egg in his arms, to land perfectly a short distance away after being carried by the momentum.

With the battle just about underway, Yougi thought he'd take the first move since he had such confidence in Togepi after the last battle.
"Okay Togepi," He said, taking a step back to make sure they'd have enough room in the clearing. "Let's get off to a good start here, start with a Growl for some intimidation (he emphasised the word 'some') and follow it with a Tackle for added effect."

Yougi was very unsettled when Togepi was faked out, causing her to falter straight off. But knowing the moves he did, he doubted he'd see much faking out in the rounds to come. As the round concluded, Togepi slightly worse off, Yougi listened intently to Lyra's orders in hopes of countering them.

He groaned slightly as the words 'Hi-Jump Kick' were uttered, knowing them to be resultant in a powerful Fighting based attack. Fortunately for him, being a very high jump, it could be avoided fairly easily with it being very difficult to control when in mid-air. And with that he issued his orders.

"Okay Togepi, we're going to have to avoid that powerful move." Yougi started, "Show me your very best Dodge to avoid it and let's mix things up by using a Metronome against the Tackle, gotta try something new sometime."

(Lol, I plan on teaching Togepi Water Pulse as soon as I get my PokéDex and she uses it now. It must be fate.)

With Togepi looking fighting fit in the battle, Yougi is happy with the way she's performing. She meets and then exceeds his expectations in both battles so far, although it is always a close call. His mind whirred a little as he delved for a strategy for the situation, he didn't want to go all out offensive but he didn't have a lot of defensive moves at his disposal either to throw his opponent off some. So, his decision was simple, if at first you don't succeed, give it another go.

"Okay Togepi," he started, "Let's give this a good old go again, start off with a Growl to put them off coming in to attack with to much force and then Tackle them."

Yougi winced as Togepi did, the High Jump Kick that could have spelt disaster grazing her side but still causing what seemed like intense pain for the young normal type.

Listening to Lyras orders, she wasn't holding much back and seemed to have as much fighting spirit as her peppy, young Pokémon did. Yougi needed to counteract her moves and get more damage piled onto the Tyrogue. He had his secret weapon up his sleeve, but didn't want to risk using it at the wrong time in the battle or against the wrong move.

He decided he was just going to take a big risk though,
"Togepi, let's have some faith and hope we can hold onto our luck. Use Metronome twice and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you."

Yougirasu had to wipe some of the sweat from his brow using his sleeve after another intense round. The small beads of sweat were constantly forming as things grew intense, Togepi was launching great attacks using Metronome and Tyrogue was taking some intense hits. The last hit hadn't been so great for Togepi though, the steel type attack of Gyro Ball wouldn't have done much against Tyrogue and he managed to push through to damage Togepi.

By now, both looked pretty worn but in very different respects. Tyrogue had been washed, fried and battered and looked so roughed up but Togepi looked so worn out from the attacks that it could end up very close when attempting to go for a KO. But Yougi wanted to give it one last push, to see what he, Togepi, Lyra and Tyrogue were all made of and how far everyone would go to keep the egg safe.

"Let's give this one last push Togepi," Yougi said to her confidently. "Start by using your Charm if it comes in for an attack, either way though use one last Metronome."
