Yougirasu - Route 29 revisited, this time, it's hunting season.

(not sure if we're supposed to use our old threads when we're out on our adventures, repeatedly moving through them, but it seems very space concious and unneeded posts could always go to a History section or something)

Yougirasu stepped out into Route 29 for the third time, but this time he was classed as an official Pokémon trainer. With a PokéDex and everything, he had a certain spring in his step. He had a single aim at the minute, find some new Pokémon. Travelling with Togepi was all well and good, but it was always better to travel with a group rather than alone. That and he couldn't expect Togepi to be able to beat every type on her own every time.

He suddenly stopped as a thought dawned on him, something that he'd intended to do quite a while ago but hadn't been able to do due to him lacking a PokéDex. Pulling him PokéBall containing Togepi from his waist he clicked it to unleash his little handful. As soon as she was on the ground, she span around to him and waved her arms towards him in a fashion that indicated she wanted to be lifted up. He knew that she wanted to be babied again as she really like it when she was, but he had something that needed doing beforehand.

He reached back and pulled his bag off his shoulder, getting out the mini-disk that he had received from an event earlier in the month. He glanced at the instructions again, having already read them through earlier, and reached around the back of his waist for his PokéDex. He placed the disk in the handy slot with some care and as the disc came online, the rear icon began to glow with a blue hue. He eased the tinted light over the Togepi, who had a pleading look in her eyes to be picked up, believing that the move would be compatable.

As Togepi glowed the colour of a calming blue, she seemed to be absorbing a wealth of information. The transfer was coming from the bright beam of light that Yougi's PokéDex was producing onto Togepi. As Togepi seemed to finally understand the new technique that was being bestowed upon her, the light dimmed and Yougi half expected to hear 'this disk will now self-destruct' before the empty disk was forced out of the PokéDex.

With Togepi now having the basic knowledge of Water Pulse, Yougi stooped down to pick up the discarded disk which had fallen onto the floor to deposit for re-use next time he was in a town. Togepi however, took this opportunity to leap up to Yougi's shoulder, much to Yougi's disapproval. Pocketing the empty disk though, Yougi set off in search of Pokémon, noticing that most were either settling down for the evening or just waking up. This severely reduced his chances of running into anything.

However, just as this passed through his mind, a lone Rattata scurried across the path ahead of him as if it was looking for something it had misplaced. As it disappeared slightly into the undergrowth, Yougi decided that it might be useful to follow the small Pokémon to see what it was seeking. It seemed quite distressed and Yougi might be able to provide some help to the Rattata. With this in mind, he carefully set off making an attempt to not startle the Rattata as he followed as closely and quietly as he could.

As Yougi bent down to see what the Rattata could possibly be looking for in the dense undergrowth that surrounded the route, the Rattata suddenly span about and looked at him. It stared at him with a vacant look in its eyes, that was surprisingly haunting, and blinked a few times before a weird, rattata-ish grin spread across it's face.

Before Yougi could even comprehend the situation infront of him, the Rattata had lunged at him and ran up his arm and onto his shoulder to reach the pack that he had slung across one of his shoulders. It sat up there, struggling with the zipper on it in a vain attempt to grab at the few Oran berries that Yougi held.
"Mother-." Yougi exclaimed, quite surprised at what had just occured. While Togepi sat on his other shoulder, half asleep and quite oblivious to what was happening on the other side of Yougi's head.
Yougirasu decided that he was going to have non of it, if the Rattata had seemed decent but hungry he might have shared a berry but with that attitude-

Yougi reached up, disturbing Togepi somewhat and grabbed the small rodent by it's tail. The Rattata seemed somewhat unsettled by this but Yougi swung it gently, sending it flying by about a foot to land gracefully ahead of him. He wasn't having any of it's thieving antics and if it wanted to try something again, he wasn't against the idea of waking up Togepi to show it the error of it's ways.

In the aftermath of Yougi's actions, Rattata looked seriously fired up. It found itself looking around the environment nearby as if to seek out some allies, but quickly turned it's head back to Yougi with a fierce look and fire in it's eyes.

"You're getting awfully fired up over something that isn't yours." Yougi spoke at it with a manner of fact tone to his voice. This didn't seem to distract the Rattata or generally disturb it in any way, it was quite focused on him now since he stood between the food. Although rarely inbetween the frequent stares that were had over the brief period, it would keep looking about as if looking for back up. With nothing but intensity between the two of them, Yougi decided to shake the shoulder with Togepi on to wake her up as a precaution.
"If things get out of hand, try dealing with this little guy by using a Water Pulse on it." Yougi whispered towards the Togepi, keeping his eyes fixed on the Rattata.

Suddenly, as Rattata made a dash, Yougi reacted. The speed that Rattata had moved at was very quick and at a pace that had startled Yougi a little. But he found himself leaping to get out of the way, rather than get hit, and hoping that Togepi would have reacted as he'd asked of her.

As Yougi gathered himself and turned to see the two Pokémon facing off, it was clear that Togepi had struck her mark and the fight was well and truely on now. Rattata had just let out an emphasised 'Rah-Tata!' to intimidate Togepi from attacking, but since only one attack had been ordered it seemed like a bit of a waste.
Yougi gathered from this however, that Rattata would have access to a few other moves, that it wouldn't normally learn until later in it's training. So he'd have to stay aware and keep his distance as best as possible.

"Right Togepi, we're in it to win it now. Try your luck with a Metronome and follow up whatever luck you get with a Water Pulse."
Yougi wanted both of them to give the battle everything, but he didn't want to weaken Togepi with to many hits if he could avoid them.

With Rattata dodging Togepi's Water Pulse by using a Quick Attack and then coming in for a hit, Yougi was disheartened a little and he could sense that Togepi was smarting from that hit as well. He knew though that this could provide a suitable opportunity for some tricky business and that might give Togepi the ability to gain a quicker victory for herself. Yougi looked on at her with admiration for her battling skills and quickly doled out his orders.

"Okay Togepi, let's do this right. Open up with a Charm, you're good at those, and then use Water Pulse one more time. If your Water Pulse misses though, throw in a Metronome for good measure."

With Rattata receiving a point blank Water Pulse to it's face, it found itself collapsing, unable to bring itself to fight any more.

Yougi looked upon the limp body of the young Rattata, it had shown guts and some strength in battle. But Yougi wasn't quite ready to add another Normal type to his team, he wanted a bit of versatility, but that didn't mean he was going to be overly cruel to the poor Pokémon. He stooped down and scooped up the Rattata and while aware of the chances that another Pokémon might have heard the commotion and be on it's way to investigate, he walked over to a nearby bush and placed Rattata under it's cover. He found some larger leaves that had recently fallen off and, with Togepi's help, made a make-shift leaf blanket for it to rest under until it was strong enough to go find it's real home.

Setting off again, Yougi had every intention of travelling up to the gatehouse and onto route 46. But his decision was to head into Cherrygrove, to make sure Togepi was at her best and to stock up on some supplies for the coming trip. He also wanted to make sure he had more of a chance to find a Pokémon, so he considered calling it a night and taking a well earned rest himself. But his first port of call would have to be that old Apricorn tree near the city, to collect another green Apricorn for his collection
