The Abilitydex - Page 2 Empty Re: The Abilitydex

Post by Gary Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:10 pm

This is going to be long... here goes nothing

Adaptability:
The Pokémon is able to adapt their own natural typing to different situations, strengthening the power of attacks that correspond to the Pokémon's type.

Air Lock:
The Pokémon has incredible power over the weather and uses it to clear any weather effects that surround the area while it is in battle. The area becomes like the eye of a storm, and when the Pokémon leaves the battle, weather effects will resume.

Anger Point:
When the Pokémon is hit especially hard, their adrenaline sends them into a rage-like state where their attack power is heightened. This is different from a Taunt state, as the Pokémon is still able to use non-attacking moves.

Bad Dreams:
The Pokémon has the ability to manipulate dreams, so whenever an opponent is under the Sleep condition, they will have haunting dreams that drain their health until they awaken.

Chlorophyll:
This ability can only take effect during strong sunlight. Enhanced photosynthesis allows the Pokémon to have more energy to spend moving, and thus increases their speed greatly.

Drizzle:
The Pokémon has incredible power over the weather and uses it to summon a rain storm whenever it is in battle. The rain is so strong that it does not wear off until after the battle is over.

Drought:
The Pokémon has incredible power over the weather and uses it to summon strong sunlight whenever it is in battle. The sun is so strong that it does not wear off until after the battle is over.

Filter:
The Pokémon subconsciously has a barrier-like force field around it at all times that automatically activates when the Pokémon is hit by a super effective attack and filters out some of the damage.

Flower Gift:
This ability can only take effect during strong sunlight. Enhanced photosynthesis allows the Pokémon to store extra energy in its petals or leaves and it then breaks off shares some of those with its allies in battle in which they can use to power up their attacks.

Forecast:
This ability allows the Pokémon Castform to change its type and form to match the current weather condition. It only works during a rain storm, hail storm, or strong sunlight.

Gluttony:
The Pokémon is accustomed to eating more often than usual, and is inclined to eat a held Berry quicker than a Pokémon usually would.

Honey Gather:
The Pokémon can be likely to go collect Honey after a battle is over. Pokémon with this ability are also able to find Berries and Apricorns after battle depending on the region they are in.

Hyper Cutter:
Because the Pokémon is naturally armed with an appendage on its body that is capable of slicing or cutting for great damage, they are extremely unlikely to become intimidated by anything that tries to weaken their attack power.

Intimidate:
Upon entering battle, the Pokémon lets out an intimidating roar in an attempt to scare all opponents and weaken their attack power.

Iron Fist:
Because the Pokémon naturally fights through its fists, they have hardened over time and thus allow the Pokémon to hit much harder when using a punching attack.

Limber:
The Pokémon has a naturally very flexible body which allows it to bend in ways impossible to other Pokémon and thus shake off any kind of paralysis.

Magnet Pull:
The Pokémon contains a rather large magnet on their body which prevents any Steel type opponent from escaping, and in close proximity can even draw the opponent into the Pokémon.

Marvel Scale:
The Pokémon's body is covered with special scales that increase in thickness due to a chemical released when the Pokémon is inflicted with a status condition, as a powerful defense mechanism.

Motor Drive:
The Pokémon has an electrical current in their body that naturally absorbs electricity on impact and sends the energy to their legs, increasing speed.

Own Tempo:
The Pokémon tends to often be absorbed with its own thoughts and is incapable of noticing the foe's attempts to confuse them. The Pokémon is set in its ways and is also unable to be confused by any other means, even if it is self-inflicted.

Poison Point:
The Pokémon contains poisonous barbs all over its body, which may poison a foe that makes physical contact with them.

Pure Power:
The Pokémon contains a concentrated amount of pure internal power that they can call upon in battle to greatly strengthen their attacks. However, attacks take a one second charge up time if this ability is used.

Rain Dish:
This ability can only take effect when it is raining. The Pokémon contains an appendage on their body that is capable of collecting rainwater and consuming it in order to replenish their energy.

Reckless:
The Pokémon has a tendency to take great risks in battle and thus hits much harder for recoil-inducing attacks, but comes with a price of leaving itself more vulnerable to recoil damage.

Rough Skin:
The Pokémon's body is covered with a tough, sandpaper-like skin which causes abrasion when an opponent makes physical contact for slight damage.

Sand Stream:
The Pokémon contains large pools of sand in their body which they release upon entering battle in order to summon a Sandstorm.

Shed Skin:
When the Pokémon is inflicted with a status condition, their body automatically begins to start shedding skin at random parts of the body, so on occasion, the portion of the body that is infected will become cured.

Shell Armor:
The Pokémon's body is protected naturally by a tough outer shell or exoskeleton to protect their weak points from receiving critical damage.

Slow Start:
Because the Pokémon expends a high amount of energy, it must constantly rest whenever it isn't fighting. Upon entering battle, the Pokémon starts off very sluggish and stiff, but loosens up as the battle goes on.

Solid Rock:
The Pokémon's body is covered in a very tough, dense layer of skin or rocks that protects it from taking full damage from super effective attacks.

Soundproof:
When the Pokémon fights, they have the ability to block out all sound, essentially making themselves deaf as well as immune to all sound-based attacks. When it is time to listen to their trainer's commands, the Pokémon is able to turn their hearing back on.

Stall:
The Pokémon instinctively has a tendency to wait for the opponent to make their move first and then strike at the opportune moment, increasing the impact of its attacks.

Sticky Hold:
The Pokémon's skin is naturally sticky, so any held item they are holding cannot be stolen by the opponent. Also, if the opponent makes contact with the Pokémon, they become stuck to the Pokémon for one second before they are freed.

Sturdy:
The Pokémon possesses a very tough and durable body as well as a strong will to battle which allows it to withstand the mightiest of attacks. Attacks that cause massive damage become powered down against the Pokémon.

Swift Swim:
This ability can only take effect when it is raining. The sight and touch of rain activates the Pokémon's instincts to swim, making their leg, tail, or fin muscles temporarily stronger in order to increase their speed greatly.

Technician:
The Pokémon is able to tweak their weaker attacks in such a way that they become more effective in battle.

Trace:
Upon entering battle, the Pokémon creates a mental bond with the opponent, causing them to imitate their natural ability to the best they can.

Truant:
The Pokémon is naturally lazy and stops to rest in order to save energy whenever it uses too many attacks in a row. Two methods for battling with a Truant Pokémon include ordering only 1 attack per round or to order 2 attacks per round and having your Pokémon skip out every other round.

Unburden:
If the Pokémon is holding a held item and either consumes or loses it, their speed is increased.

Vital Spirit:
The Pokémon is incapable of falling asleep, even on its own accord.

White Smoke:
The Pokémon releases a white smoke from its body that clouds its vision to shield it from opponents' attacks that may try to intimidate or weaken it. However, this does not obstruct its vision to see where the opponent is and does not lower accuracy.

Phew, done... that should be the rest of the abilities now. If you have any questions about these, or any other abilities, this is the thread to ask them!

Question about the wording of Normalize- does that mean Normalize Pokémon expend less energy on their attacks?

Storm Drain sounds kinda like Water Absorb. Does the Pokémon still take damage from Water attacks, as in the games?

Storm Drain actively pulls in water attacks for a small damage buffer, while Water Absorb nullifies all water damage on impact and heals the Pokémon some.

How do Pokémon with two abilities determine their ability?
Also, would Forewarn be able to be used out of battle to predict if something dangerous could/would happen?

You get to choose which ability you prefer. However, once you've decided, there's no changing it!

For Forewarn? I could see that happening outside of battle. The Pokémon could be able to "see" into the future if something big happened.

Lol, Gary beat me to it. Also, it's covered in the rules.
I'm not sure how abilities work in the wild though or with random trainers, I've had a Gligar's Hyper Cutter work against me and more recently, Pidgey's Keen Eye.

For wild Pokémon/trainers, it's basically random or just whatever one comes to mind for the updator first, lol.
