It Can't Come Quickly Enough

Dave was not amused.

He was tired and hot after his journey to Pallet (although the latter could easily be remedied by removing his jacket, this was out of the question), and now he'd managed to trip over the doorstep and bash his head on the door frame.

"Uhhhhhhh...." he groaned to himself, clutching his injured head.

He supposed it was his own fault. He'd been rather excited about getting his new Pokémon, and had ran all the way to the lab the moment he'd entered Pallet Town. As he'd approached the lab building, he'd spied a ranch area just off the lab, and in it what had to be the finest Rhydon he'd ever seen, roaring its challenge at nothing but the heavens themselves. The momentary distraction had been enough for him to catch his foot, and he'd suddenly found himself off-balance - a problem which gravity had corrected in the usual fashion.

He'd be leaving this part out when he told his friends tales of his adventure.

Picking himself up, he took a step through the door. The cool interior was a relief after the baking heat outside.

"Hello? Professor?"

Dave eagerly looked over the poke balls, thinking over his options.

The classic options were Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur, of course, but everyone and their dog had one of the three. Pikachu were also stupidly common on Kanto teams.

Glancing up, Dave briefly wondered what the dishevelled professor would choose. Your starter revealed a lot about you, so his sister told him. The old man struck him as a Charmander sort of person - the sort of person who was so enthusiastic about Pokémon that they thought pretty much everything about them was cool. Not Dave's cup of tea though, really, the more flashy Pokémon.

His friends had told him he was mad when he mentioned which Pokémon he'd been seriously considering starting with but now, faced with it, he couldn't resist.

"Professor, I'd like a Pidgey, please!"

Pidgey. Not big or flashy or cool, but tough and stubborn just like him. Common as dirt, and lacking the power or versatility that many of the more popular Pokémon had, but one that would emphasise strategy above all else. All in all, he felt it was a good choice.
