Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Joshua stood in front of the Sprout Tower, Rary still perched on his shoulder, Azea standing literally on his foot for some reason. "That's a habit we'll have to get out of you before you evolve, little one," Joshua said jokingly to the Phanpy, who laughed.
"Sprout Tower," he muttered to himself. He'd never been here before, even growing up in Violet City. Stories of the monks who dwelt here punishing vagrant children with their Pokémon had run rampant amongst the imaginations of the young children, and Joshua had been too terrified to even come near the Tower. Before today. Here, with Azea and Rary by his side, he felt like he had finally grown past the frightened child he used to be.
"Come on guys, let's go kick some butt!" he said. Azea and Rary cried out in agreement, and the trio set off. At the front of Joshua's mind was a story about the strongest monk in the tower, and a special prize that could be awarded by beating him. That, and a chance to level his Pokémon before facing Falkner, was what drove him to open the door and enter the Tower.

Re: Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Having heard about a special challenge before, Joshua entered the Sprout Tower in hopes of battling his way to the top for some good experience. The Sprout Tower was an ancient building, a wooden pagoda most famous for the way the building sways from the shifting weight of the central support beam. Architecturally, it was a nightmare, but in reality, it was quite the miraculous wonder, as it has sturdily lasted over all these years.
Walking up the flight of stairs to the second floor, Joshua looked around for a while before coming across a monk. "Ah, taking the challenge, I see. Well then, young trainer, I shall start you off with the first of many battles to come! Go, Bellsprout!" The monk revealed a PokéBall from the long sleeves of his robes and tossed it to reveal a Bellsprout. "Double Vine Whip!"

Unlike most tourists or visitors to the Sprout Tower, Joshua did not have the problem of being unable to keep his eyes off the swaying support beam. Instead, he couldn't bring himself to look at it, the gentle and continuing swaying making the trainer feel slightly queasy.
As a monk appeared, Joshua's spirits lifted, at the sight of a trainer to face. With the presence of a grass type before him, an evil grin came across Joshua's face for a moment, before he stopped, his fingers already on Yuki's PokéBall.
"No, I'll save you for later," he muttered to himself. "Come, Rary!"
As the Pidgey exploded out of his ball in crimson light, Joshua was already calling orders to the airborne Pokémon. "Rary, swoop around and dive in for a pair of Tackles!"

Wanting to save his ace Pokémon for later, Joshua called out Rary the Pidgey to take on the Bellsprout. Rary started the battle off by swooping around for a Tackle attack, knocking the Bellsprout backward. Bellsprout retaliated with a swift Vine Whip to Rary's back, which still stung despite not dealing much damage. Rary came in for a second Tackle, and the round repeated itself with Bellsprout countering with a second Vine Whip. Overall, Bellsprout took more damage than Rary to start this battle off. "Two more Vine Whips!" the monk called out.

While a smile was obvious on Joshua's face as Rary fought his hardest against the Bellsprout, he couldn't help but feel a little dirty inside. The Bellsprout seemed unable to use more than just one attack, and Rary's typing resisted it. It seemed cheap to the trainer.
"Rary, you're doing great!" Joshua yelled, keeping his voice optimistic as he called. "Same as before, two Tackles!"

Seeing that he had the upper hand in this battle, Joshua decided to stick to his strategy and cheered his Pidgey on. Rary nodded and swooped in for a Tackle on the Bellsprout, knocking it back. Bellsprout countered with its own Vine Whip, knocking Rary down for a moment. Rary quickly got back up and went in for another Tackle. Bellsprout finished off the round with a second Vine Whip, dealing the same amount of damage as before. As the two Pokémon continue to exchange blows, Rary's lead on health continues to grow. Rary has used up slightly more energy from all the flying around, however.
Re: Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Joshua watched happily as Rary took a commanding lead in this battle, thankful that he could do so well after the disastrous KO that Joshua had caused him to suffer against the Bug Trainer in the previous Route.
"That's it Rary, now let's try something a little different!" Joshua cried out. "Swoop in for a Tackle, but land after you hit it. Then Tackle it from the ground. You're doing great!"
A random thought struck Joshua after he called, and he almost wondered why it hadn't occured to him before. Taking his attention off the battle momentarily, Joshua released Yuki the Snorunt, the Ice type looking confused as to why he was out.
"Easy buddy," Joshua said, noticing the Snorunt wanting to get in on the battle. "This fight belongs to Rary, okay? You'll get your chance soon." Reaching into his bag, Joshua pulled out a small disc, the TM Flash he had won from Earl.
"This thing was a dangerous thing to get, so let's hope it works," Joshua muttered, taking out his PokéDex. "Now, how does this work again?" he asked, trying to work out how to use the TM on Yuki.

Re: Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Before the next round of fighting could start, Joshua pulled out his newly-won TM Flash, hoping to test it out on Yuki. The Snorunt looked up at him, perplexed, as Joshua inserted the disc into his PokéDex. The machine whirred up as it read the contents of the disc, and Joshua pointed it at Yuki. A light colored laser shot out at the Snorunt, and Yuki began to glow very brightly. As the light faded, the machine came to a stop, spitting out the empty disc. Yuki can now use the move Flash! Yuki grinned, happy to now be able to use a new attack.
As it was now time to turn the attention back to the battle, Joshua called out a change of strategy to Rary. The Pidgey nodded as he swooped in for a Tackle on the enemy Bellsprout, knocking it back before he quickly landed. The Bellsprout Whipped Rary with its Vines in retaliation soon after, but it had little effect on the bird Pokémon. Rary hopped forward and Tackled Bellsprout again before taking yet another Vine Whip. The battle was beginning to look a bit repetitive, but it worked as Rary further increased his lead over Bellsprout in health. It wouldn't be hard to predict what Bellsprout would use next round.

Re: Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Joshua wasn't entirely sure whether or not his change of plans had actually worked, unable to be sure about Rary's breathing from outside the battle. His eyes fell on the Bellsprout, who was starting to look a little beaten, and he decided to throw caution into the wind.
"Alright Rary, let's try and finish this off! Slam it for a Tackle, then take to the air again! Swoop down on it from above for another pair of Tackles! You're doing fantastic, keep it up!" Joshua felt around in his bag for one of the Oran Berries he'd been given at the very start of his journey, and slid it from his bag into his jacket pocket. Once the battle was over, he'd give it to Rary to recover his strength.

Re: Act 2, Scene 5 - For whom the Bellsprout tolls!
Wanting to finish off the Bellsprout, Joshua ordered Rary to go all out on the offensive and then planned to reward his Pokémon after the battle was over. Rary chirped in agreement and hopped in for a quick Tackle on Bellsprout before taking a Vine Whip from the grass Pokémon. Rary then took to the air, flapping his wings and flying around the room before he swooped in for another Tackle. Bellsprout was knocked backwards from the impact, but again quickly recovered and Vine Whipped Rary back. Rary then finished off the battle with a third Tackle, knocking out Bellsprout for good as it collapsed. Level up for Rary! The monk bowed to Joshua and handed over 100 PokéDollars. "You have fought well, please proceed on to the next floor." Joshua happily fed Rary an Oran Berry, revitalizing the Pokémon immediately before walking over to the ladder and heading upstairs. Once on the next floor, Joshua spots two more monks. Each of them is holding a single PokéBall, but they seem to be guarding the next ladder up together. "In order to proceed, you must fight both of us in a double Pokémon battle," one of them announces. They then both send out a Bellsprout each. What will Joshua do?
